Open access to research

The Norwegian government established national guidelines for open access to research articles on august 22nd 2017.

Background

Open access to scientific publications (open access) promotes research and society's use of research results.

The Norwegian government has launched goals and guidelines for open access to research articles. Science funders like the Research council of Norway (RCN) and the EU demand that articles from projects they have funded have to be open access.

What do I have to do?

1. You may choose to publish the article in an open access journal. You can read more about open access journals at the national web cite for open access Exit link.

Please note that you have to upload a version of the article in Cristin even if the article is published in an open access journal. This secures access to the article if the journal is closed down.

2. You have to upload a version of your article in Cristin. If your institution has a repository for research articles, the article will be transferred via Cristin to the repository. The library makes sure embargo requirements are followed.
